Hickory is the economic, social, and cultural center of the Catawba Valley.
Hickory was known in the years after World War II for the "Miracle of Hickory".
Hickory is the hometown of the infamous SuperShadow (real name Mickey Suttle), who has been making wild claims to the Star Wars community since Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out in 1999.

Hickory turned out to be the quintessential minor league ballpark experience, and then some.
I found out that the Pirates, the CrawdadsÂ’ affiliate, pay for player salaries and medical expenses, but Hickory is responsible for the majority of the rest, such as uniforms, travel expenses and player accommodations for road games, and paying the umpiresÂ’ salaries.
But this is friendly Hickory, where after the game fans are allowed to walk along the dirt path that leads to the home dugout, making it even easier to obtain signatures and pictures.
