Haldex provides proprietary and innovative technology solutions that improve safety, the enviroment and vehicle dynamics to the global vehicle industry within specific niches. Haldex strengthens it's competitivesnss and develops long-term customer relationship with through products that offer high performance and low total cost for the customer throughout the product's service life, ethical business practices and commitment to long term partnerships.

Haldex, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Haldex has a yearly turnover of 8 bn SEK and employs 6,100 people.

Haldex operations are divided into four business areas: Commercial Vehicle Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Garphyttan Wire and Traction Systems.

The Commercial Vehicle Systems division develops, manufactures and markets brake systems for heavy trucks, trailers and buses. The product offering includes all main components and subsystems included in a complete brake system. The operations are conducted within five business units.

Operations/Products Actuators manufactures brake cylinders that convert energy in the form of compressed air into the mechanical motion needed to activate the wheel brakes. Air Management makes products to generate and dry compressed air in brake systems, such as compressors, air dryers and air cleaners, as well as valves for air-based suspension systems. Brake Controls makes products for controlling brake systems, such as valves and electronically controlled subsystems (ABS, ESP, EBS). Foundation Brake makes the wheel brake products that perform the actual braking action, such as disc brakes, brake adjusters for drum brakes and electronic sensor systems for indicating brake lining wear. Friction Products manufactures brake lining products for disc brakes and drum brakes for light, medium and heavy trucks. The Division also has a relining operation in the American aftermarket.

Production takes place in Brazil, India, China, Mexico, United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Hungary and the United States.

Market Shares Haldex’s share of the market that the company can service with its current product line is roughly 15%. Haldex has considerably higher market shares in individual product areas.

Customers consist of manufacturers of heavy trucks, buses and trailers, as well as axle manufacturers for such vehicles. Aftermarket sales account for roughly half of our sales, and are made both through the vehicle makers’ aftermarket organizations and through independent aftermarket distributors.

Hydraulic Systems offers a broad product line of hydraulic pumps, power systems, fuel transfer pumps for diesel engines and special products for reducing emissions from diesel engines. Our operations in the area of hydraulic pumps are focused on gear pumps.

Operations/Products Hydraulic Systems delivers hydraulic lifting systems and drive systems for industrial vehicles (construction and farm machinery, forklift trucks, work platforms). For diesel engines we also deliver fuel transfer pumps, cooling fan drive systems and the Alfdex system for cleaning crankcase gases.

Production operations are conducted in China, Sweden, Germany and the USA.

Market Shares Haldex’s share of the global, mobile hydraulic market is estimated at 5%. The market share for the Division’s main product area, gear pumps, is about 20%.

Customers Manufacturers of industrial vehicles, trucks and diesel engines

Garphyttan Wire manufactures advanced spring wire from various alloys for use mainly in combustion engines and transmissions, where the quality and performance requirements are extremely strict. The main applications are valve springs, transmission springs, piston rings and springs for fuel injection systems.

Operations/Products Since extremely pure steel is needed as the starting material for producing spring wire that meets the stringent requirements, very close cooperation with steelmakers is extremely important. The core of the Division’s expertise consists of creating product characteristics that ensure trouble-free end use in the form of springs that have at least the same total service life as the vehicle in question. Our proven ability to achieve a level of stability that always meets these requirements gives us an important competitive edge.

In addition to oil-tempered valve spring wire, production includes a significant proportion of stainless specialty spring wire, as well as profiles and flat wire for application areas in both the vehicle industry and the energy and environmental areas.

Production is conducted in China, Sweden and the USA.

Market Shares Haldex has a leading position in this product area, with global market share of roughly 33%.

Customers Mainly spring manufacturers with specialized expertise in the vehicle industry. The Division also has a smaller production of springs for in-house use, including valve springs for Swedish engine manufacturers and specialty springs for Haldex brake products.

Traction Systems produces electronically controllable systems for four-wheel drives for cars, known as AWD systems. The fact that these systems are controllable means that they can better interact with other subsystems in the car. The system software can be customized to meet each carmaker’s particular wishes in terms of driving characteristics and traction.

Operations/Products The primary production takes place in Sweden, with preassembly and low-volume production, including spare parts, conducted in Hungary.

Market Shares Haldex is a market leader in controllable AWD systems. During 2006, market shares were 24% in Europe and 2% in North America.

Customers include the carmakers Saab Volvo, Ford, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda and Bugatti. The systems are used in regular cars, SUVs and in crossover vehicles, meaning combinations of regular station wagons and SUVs. The Volvo XC-70 is one example of a vehicle in this category. Haldex AWD systems are used in all of Volvo’s four-wheel drive models.
