Encyclopedia > Hafiz Hakki

Classmate of Enver Pasha. He ranked number 1 in the military school while Enver ranked the 2nd. Yet both "brilliant" students led the Ottoman army in Sarikamis in 1914-1915 foolishly. Like his classmate Enver, Hafiz Hakki was a dreamer with ambitions. He is the one more than Enver who drove the 10th sub army to Allahuekber mountains where 90,000 soldiers froze to death in 24 hours. He fouhgt in Balkan wars in 1912 and wrote books after about how the army should be led. Ironically he did the opposite of what he wrote in Sarikamis. He died of Typhus in Erzerum in 1915 a few weeks after retreat from Sarikamis.
