HMS Abdiel was a minelayer of the Abdiel-class. She was launched on 23 April 1940. On 10 September 1943, she was mined and sunk in a harbour in Taranto, Italy, while carrying troops. The mines had been laid only a few hours earlier, by two German motor torpedo boats as they escaped the harbour. She sank in three minutes, with heavy casualties. HMS Abdiel (M39) was built at White and launched 23th April 1940 and served in Mediterranean in 1941 and moving to the Eastern fleet in 1942 and to the Home Fleet in 1942 and 1943 and again back to the Mediterranean fleet at the end of 1943.
