Storm was born in Hartlepool. He won The Amateur Championship in 1999 and represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup. He turned professional in 2000. For his first few seasons he had difficulty establishing himself on the European Tour, and he worked in a cream cake factory in the off season to finance his early years as a professional. He picked up two wins at Challenge Tour level in 2004.
