Getting Straight was an American motion picture released by Columbia Pictures in 1970. It was directed by Richard Rush, most known for his film The Stunt Man (1980). It also had an interesting cast. In the lead role was Elliot Gould as non-conformist university professor Harry Bailey, and alongside him was Candice Bergen as his girlfriend. Getting Straight was notable for several other reasons. It was released in an era of change and unrest in the United States in the early 1970s, and was in a long line of films that dealt with these themes. Other films such as R.P.M. (1970), directed by Stanley Kramer, and The Strawberry Statement (1970) also typified these themes, but with varying degrees of success.
