The Georgetown University Phantoms are the first co-ed a cappella group of Georgetown University. They perform pop music and host the annual D.C. A cappella Festival - "DCAF." The group gets its name from a comment one of the Jesuit priests on campus made when hearing the original group caroling: "you seem to show up everywhere, like a bunch of Phantoms." A cappella music is vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. ... Georgetown University is a private university in the United States, located in Georgetown, a neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is both the oldest Roman Catholic and oldest Jesuit university in the United States, having been founded on January 23, 1789 by Archbishop John Carroll. ... Originally founded as a caroling group by Huey Jin-Soon in 1988, the group usually has about 18 members, split SATB (plus solo and vocal percussion). The Phantoms have performed for numerous Washington D.C. audiences and clients, including the Air Force (Andrews Air Force Base), the Kennedy Center, the US State Department, Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, the White House, Cosmos Club, Platinum Club, Hot 99.5 pop radio station, and others. DC A Cappella Festival is the annual a cappella concert co-hosted by two of GU’s most charismatic a cappella groups: the Phantoms, GU’s first co-ed a cappella group, and the GraceNotes, GU’s first all-female a cappella group.
Both the GraceNotes and Phantoms debut newly arranged songs at the concert, which lends excitement and enthusiasm to the performances.
The concert is open to the public and continues to be an integral and exciting part of annual campus activities.
