Garvey's Ghost is a dub album by Burning Spear, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music) on Island Records. It is considered to be the first dub reggae album. In 1975, Burning Spear's Winston Rodney and producer Jack Ruby took all the basic tracks of the previous release cut earlier that year, the seminal Marcus Garvey album, and made dub versions of them. This was an established studio practice in Jamaica, usually to make flip sides for singles, but this was the first time it had ever been done to an entire album. Garvey's Ghost is now issued along with Marcus Garvey on a single CD edition. Image File history File links Garvey'sghost. ... A Studio Album is an album of regular studio recordings. ... Jah man! At the time, Garvey was under a federal indictment in New York on mail fraud charges related to fund raising with his movement, the Universal Negro Improvement Association.
