The town of Fredrikstad was in many ways an economic powerhouse in Norway in the previous century, first as a major supplier of machinery to the timber industry and then as a center of shipbuilding activities.
Fredrikstad's comeback from obscurity is largely attributed to manager Knut Torbjørn Eggen, who came to the club in 2001, bringing with him the professionalism the club had previously lacked.
Fredrikstad wanted to use the colours of the Polish national team and a letter was sent to the Polish Football Association asking for permission to use the Polish colours.
