FranklinPark Zoo, founded in 1913, is the 72-acre site nestled in Boston’s historic FranklinPark, long considered the “crown jewel” of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace Park System.
Highlights of FranklinPark Zoo’s collection include the African lions of the Kalahari Kingdom, Masai giraffe and Grevy’s zebra of the Giraffe Savannah, and western lowland gorillas of the Tropical Forest.
The tigers came to FranklinPark Zoo after being confiscated in a sting operation by U.S. Fish and Wildlife special agents where the agents posed as private sector buyers and were able to purchase the pair from the wildlife sanctuary they were living at.
