Medicare: Definition and Much More from Answers.com (8028 words)
Medicare benefits are divided into two different categories referred to as Part A and Part B. Medicare Part A is hospital insurance that provides basic coverage for hospital stays and post-hospital nursing facilities, home health care, and hospice care for terminally ill patients.
Medicare provides for a basic program of hospital insurance, under which enrollees are protected against major costs of hospital and related care; and a supplementary medical insurance program, through which persons are aided in paying doctor bills and other health-care bills.
Medicare also pays for the first twenty days of care in a skilled nursing home and for expenses exceeding a daily minimum amount for the next eighty days when certain conditions show that such care is necessary.
