FC Volendam was founded as Victoria in 1920 by local fishermen. By 1923, the club had already been renamed FC Volendam. Being from the piously catholic village of Volendam, FC Volendam quickly joined the Catholic Football Association of the Netherlands. In 1935 and 1938, FC Volendam won the catholic national football title of the Netherlands. In the Second World War, FC Volendam was forced by the nazis to join the Royal Netherlands Football Association. In 1955, the club joined the professional football league. Volendam would soon establish its reputation as the Heen-en-weer club (The to and fro club). The club started in the Eerste Divisie, but in 1959, Volendam secured promotion to the Eredivisie for the first time in its existence. Volendam was relegated again in 1960, was promoted in 1961, was relegated in 1964, was promoted in 1967, was relegated in 1969, was promoted in 1970, was relegated in 1972, was promoted in 1977, was relegated in 1979, was promoted in 1983, was relegated in 1985, was promoted in 1987, was relegated in 1998, was promoted in 2003 and was finally relegated in 2004, as a result of which FC Volendam is currently playing in the Eerste Divisie. FC Zwolle is a Dutch football club based in Zwolle, currently playing in the Eerste Divisie, the country's second level of club football.
FC Zwolle was founded on June 12, 1910 as PEC, which stood for PH EDN Combinatie (PH EDN Combination).
FC Zwolle finished the season in fourth place, and had to play playoff matches against the second- and sixth-placed teams of the First Division (Sparta and Helmond Sport) and the seventeenth-placed team of the Eredivisie, De Graafschap.
