Encyclopedia > Eyesight

Visual perception is one of the senses, consisting of the ability to detect light and interpret (see) it as the perception known as sight or naked eye vision. Vision has a specific sensory system.

There is disagreement as to whether or not this constitutes one, two or even three distinct senses. Some people make a distinction between "black and white" vision and the perception of colour, and others point out that vision using rod cells uses different physical detectors on the retina from cone cells. Some argue that the perception of depth also constitutes a sense, but others argue that this is really cognition (that is, post-sensory) function derived from having stereoscopic vision (two eyes) and is not a sensory perception as such.

The eye is the light-sensitive organ that is the first component of the sensory system. The eye's retina performs the first stages of visual perception processing, with the remaining stages of visual perception occurring in the optic nerve and the visual cortex of the brain.

DSA - Eyesight requirements (0 words)
If you are unsuccessful on the first eyesight test, you should be asked to read another number plate, and if necessary be allowed to walk forward until you are just over 20.5 m away or 20 m if it is a new number plate.
If you are unable to pass the eyesight requirement because you have forgotten or broken your glasses, or brought the wrong pair, you will not be allowed to take the practical test.
If you are successful at this separate eyesight test you will still have to pass the standard eyesight test at your next practical driving test.
Can EFT Reverse Age-Related Eyesight Problems (1075 words)
Gabrielle experienced measurable improvement in her eyesight in both near and distance vision as well as and in clarity and brightness, and she too followed the program to the letter, working with the exercises at least five minutes a day, sometimes more, and completing the required eight weeks.
Her eyesight remains improved with respect to clarity and brightness of vision both near and far, but she says that it is even sharper when she does the exercises.
She feels that the eyesight experiment has made her realize that as one gets older it is extremely important to know that the changes we are told to expect with age need not necessarily occur and that nothing is really beyond repair at any age.
