Encyclopedia > Emile Bernard

Émile Bernard (1868-April 16, 1941) was a French painter who worked with such artists as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne. He theorized a style of painting with bold forms separated by dark contours which became known as Cloisonnism. He died in Paris.
