Wilson was born in the old Jason Lee house in Salem near the present address of 960 Broadway street and was the daughter of Henry and Mary Croisan, early pioneers who migrated across the plains in 1846.
Wilson was born in Arkansas December 4, 1837 and came across the plains in 1845 with her father, Alvis Smith, and mother.
Wilson was one of a family of ten children the only one surviving being her brother; John W. Smith of Wheatland.
