Elizabethtown is a village located in Hardin County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 348. It is the county seat of Hardin County6.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 348 people, 183 households, and 99 families residing in the village. The population density is 191.9/km˛ (495.6/mi˛). There are 226 housing units at an average density of 124.7/km˛ (321.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.99% White, 1.44% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 183 households out of which 18.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.8% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.9% are non-families. 44.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 27.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
