Elgin Community College is a post secondary educational institution which awards Associate of Arts degrees. It was founded in 1949 as part of Elgin Area School District U46. Community College District #509 was formed 17 years later in 1966, a year after Illinois legislators created the Illinois Public Community College System. Most of the District is in Kane County with portions in DeKalb, Cook, McHenry, and DuPage. Facilities

Originally classes were offered at Elgin High School. In 1970, the main campus opened in Southwest Elgin, Illinois on land previously used as the Elgin State Hospital farm. The main campus includes an art gallery, performing arts center, a gymnasium/event center and a baseball field. Incorporated City in 1854. ...

Student athletes compete in regional and national tournaments in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. Men compete in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, and Tennis.
