Eji (恵慈 year-of-birth unknown - March 31,623?) was a monk who came across the sea from Kokuryo to Japan at the Asuka period 595. He became a Buddhism teacher of Shōtoku Taishi.


He propagated Buddhism in Japan. When Hōryū-ji was completed in 596, he lived with priest Esō who came from Kudara, and they were called "Sanpō no Tōryō" (三宝の棟梁). In 615, He went back to native country with a annotation of Buddhism sacred book which Shōtoku Taishi wrote. Horyu-ji. ...
