In this episode, Edwina "Eddie" Ferguson, a fairly attractive but hopelessly clumsy nurse, cannot find any romance at the 4077th and the other nurses conspire to hold off their romantic relationships with the doctors and corpsman until someone agrees to date her. Eventually, the doctors draw straws and Hawkeye becomes her date for an evening.

Note

  • The episode does not make it clear if Margaret Houlihan, then in a relationship with Frank Burns, joined the nurses' conspiracy to hold off romance to help Edwina. Given Houlihan's persona in the earlier seasons, it would seem unlikely, but it's repeatedly stated in the episode that "all" the nurses were involved.
