Encyclopedia > Edgemont, Calgary

Edgemont is a neighbourhood in northwest Calgary (in Alberta, Canada), located north of the community of Dalhousie and bounded by John Laurie Boulevard to the south, Sarcee Trail to the west, Country Hills Boulevard to the north and Shaganappi Trail to the east. Much of Edgemont is a northwest extension of Nose Hill, as evidenced by the steep escarpments at the southeast end of the community. The elevation of Edgemont provides for views of the city and the mountains in the distance. The community began to develop in 1978, and has only recently been completed. With a population in 2003 of 17,667, 33.9% of whom are visible minorities, Edgemont is now one of Calgary's largest and most diverse neighbourhoods.
