EM gauge is a gauge of model railway, 4 mm scale.
EM was has evolved since the 1950s as a gauge closer to the prototypically correct 18.83 mm (modellers following Scalefour (S4) or Protofour (P4)standards use this track gauge).
EM or "Eighteen Millimetres" actually has a gauge of 18.2 mm, and is modelled at 4 mm to the foot.

This, EM gauge and P4 scale are all 4mm scale standards; the scale is the same, but the track standards are incompatible.
EM gauge was an earlier improvement from OO gauge, with wider, more accurate track at 18mm between the rails, but still narrower than the correct gauge.
EM gauge was an earlier attempt to improve OO with the more realistic (but still inaccurate) gauge of 18 mm.
