Encyclopedia > ECW One Night Stand

One Night Stand is an annual professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment. For the first two years the event featured wrestlers from the former Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion, whose holdings WWE purchased in bankruptcy court. The 2005 show was a tribute show to the original ECW, with all the match participants being ECW alumni including those who were not under contract with WWE at the time. The 2006 edition, however, marked the kickoff to WWE's new ECW brand. The 2007 edition will be the first one since ECW was revised as a full time brand, but will also feature the RAW and SmackDown! brands. WWE may be putting on another ECW Pay-Per-View this year, and the success may greatly depend on the talent that is signed for it.
For this second One Night Stand or "ONS" (as the comedian Dane Cook would say) to work, a new format, some returns, and a deal with TNA may be needed.
ECW clearly hasn't died, and hopefully a revival will follow the Second Night Stand.
