In this film, the Z Fighters have to fight an ancient monster called Hildegarn, who is used simply to cause terror around the galaxy. Z-Fighters team members Son Gohan and Videl as the Great Saiyaman are the first who encounter this horrible beast — actually, only the legs and tail of the beast. Gohan and Videl escape unharmed, thanks to their ability to fly, although they are almost killed by the sweeping of the beast's long tail. Despite his courageous attacks, Vegeta is smashed into a building, but he then uses the last of his energy to create a shield that protect himself and some people who were present in the building. He then laments that he has become "too nice".

Around the same time, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks makes his entrance, and directs a blur of energy balls at the great beast, in the form of his Renzoku Shine Shine Missiles (Continuous Die Die Missiles). It appears at first that Hildegarn has been killed or at least neutralized, but instead it evolves to an insect-like beast and delivers a fierce counterattack, rendering Son Gokū, Gohan, Videl, Son Goten and Trunks unconscious. With a Super Dragon Fist, he pierces through Hildegarn's body and constricts the beast, obliterating it a few seconds later.

Trivia

This movie, like every other movie in the Dragon Ball franchise, does not take place within the series. Rather, it's only based on the characters and stories and in a separate 'canon'. Though fans inevitably try over and over to place the movies within the series, various key facts (i.e. Characters using techniques they shouldn't know at the proposed time) just don't fit. Although some continuity can be seen in this movie, since all Z-Fighters are all alive and at the correct age, and know their trademark techniques; it can be put forth that this movie was set just after the final fight with Buu but before the next Tenkaichi Budokai with Uub.
