Banks is an Australian Electoral Division in New South Wales. The division was first proclaimed in 1949


About the electorate

Named after botanist Sir Joseph Banks who accompanied Captain James Cook on his voyage to Australia in 1770. It was Banks who recommended Botany Bay as a suitable site for a settlement that lead to the establishment of Sydney

It is the position of the Division that a state- or federally-chartered bank located in Connecticut could acquire a Massachusetts Bank through merger or consolidation since the terms imposed by the laws of Connecticut for such a transaction are no more restrictive than those terms required by the Commonwealth’s General Laws for such a merger.
