According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 0.4 km▓ (0.2 mi▓). 0.4 km▓ (0.2 mi▓) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 218 people, 103 households, and 73 families residing in the place. The population density is 526.1/km▓ (1,404.7/mi▓). There are 1,017 housing units at an average density of 2,454.2/km▓ (6,553.3/mi▓). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.33% White, 2.29% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 103 households out of which 16.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.12 and the average family size is 2.47.

In the place the population is spread out with 12.4% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 17.4% from 25 to 44, 39.4% from 45 to 64, and 25.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 52 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.0 males.

Moreover, New Jersey beaches are close enough to several large metropolitan areas (New York City, Philadelphia, Newark and their suburbs) that it is common for beachgoers to come just for the day, or to commute from less expensive areas slightly farther inland.
If the dry sand beaches which lie between the uplands and the water can be held by private owners who may by all rights exclude the public, the public may have no physical route to gain access to the waters which would essentially create a cordon of exclusive beaches.
New Jersey has long held that submerged lands are held in trust by the state for the public benefit and use.
