History

The airline was established in 1996 and started operations in April 1996. In January 1999 the Spanish airline Air Nostrum wholly acquired Denim Air. In October 2002 the management team of Denim Air bought back the shares in a management buy-out. In June 2003 it started operating domestic flights in Germany from Augsburg to Düsseldorf and Berlin. It is owned by Airton (90%) and EDW Beheer (10%). Recently (end of 2005) Denim Air came in the hands of the Panda Holding which also owns VLM. Mr. Jacobson is the man in control of this huge holding. Denim Air operates services to the following international scheduled destinations (at January 2005): Berlin, Bologna, Düsseldorf, Florence, Munich, Venice and Zürich. The Denim Air operation under the name Denim Airways have been completely cancelled. In February 2006 Fokker 50 contracts with Air Nostrum will be ended. Denim Air will be left only with Wet Lease contracts. Since this market in Europe is not looking around for older F50's Denim Air is now targeting African, Asian and other willing markets. There is one F50 flying for Air Senegal and Air Mauretania.
