Career

David West was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round, eighteenth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. In the 2005-06 NBA season Hornets coach, Byron Scott, dared David West to step up. And he did averaging 17.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and .512 FG%. Up until that time everyone thought he was a first round bust. West came out of nowhere and became the X-Factor for the Hornets winning games, coining his nickname "DX" because he is the (D) X-Factor for the Hornets winning chances and it's the combination of his first name and the Xavier "X" tattoo on his arm. Once in a game at Orlando, November 11, 2006, David West scored a career high 34 points. In the 2005-06 NBA season, David West played at the power forward most of the time and sometimes at the center spot because they lacked a true big man. After the 2005-06 NBA season, critics started saying that David West's break out season was just a fluke. In the 2006-07 NBA season, David West averaged 18.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He also had 5 30+ games (two of which were 33 point games) 13 20+ games. In the last five games of the season, he averaged 31 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and was 58% from the field.
