Daggett County is a county located in the state of Utah. As of 2000 the population was 921, and by 2004 had been estimated to increase slightly to 926. It was named for Ellsworth Daggett, first Surveyor General of Utah. Its county seat and largest city is Manila6. There is one other small town, Dutch John, which is unincorporated. Dutch John was built in the 1950s to facilitate the construction of Flaming Gorge Dam. It was privatized (removed from federal ownership) by Congressional action in 1998. The county is bordered on the north by Wyoming, on the east by Colorado.
Daggett County was used for the summer grazing of sheep and cattle trailed in from parts of northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming until the introduction of irrigation in the l890s by Adolph Jessen, Ellsworth Daggett, R. Chambers, and others made it possible for farmers and their families to live there.
Daggett County's economy is based primarily on the raising of livestock, hay, and alfalfa, but it is also an important producer of electric power for Utah and surrounding states.
