Acquired from the Rangers in 1995, Hirsch's 1995-96 record of 17-14-6 (2.93 GAA) was good enough for a spot on the all-rookie team.
Hirsch played four seasons in Kamloops (WHL) where he led the Blazers to the Memorial Cup in 1992 and was voted the best goaltender in Canadian junior hockey.
Drafted by the Rangers in the eighth round (169th overall) of the 1991 entry draft, Hirsch was a sudden star in Binghamton, and went on to earn both the 1993 AHL rookie of the year award (with a league-best 2.79 GAA) and a spot on the first all-star team.
