Cooperstown is a city located in Griggs County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,053. It is the county seat of Griggs County6.


Geography

Cooperstown is located at 47°26'43" North, 98°7'22" West (47.445175, -98.122878)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.4 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,053 people, 489 households, and 270 families residing in the city. The population density is 437.2/km˛ (1,128.2/mi˛). There are 563 housing units at an average density of 233.7/km˛ (603.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 98.86% White, 0.00% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. 0.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 489 households out of which 22.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.6% are non-families. 42.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 26.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.79.


In the city the population is spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 20.3% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 32.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 84.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.8 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $28,705, and the median income for a family is $41,307. Males have a median income of $26,688 versus $17,083 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,334. 10.5% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.7% of those under the age of 18 and 11.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
