Columbiana Centre is an enclosed, super-regional shopping mall in the Harbison area of Columbia, South Carolina. With a total gross leasable area of 817,000 ft², the mall has a total of 105 store, including four anchors: Belk, Dillard's, J. C. Penny, and Sears. Columbiana Centre also features a large carousel in the food court area. The mall opened in 1990 with Belk and Sears with a new Dillard's-anchored wing opening a few years later. Columbiana Centre served as the major catalyst for booming retail development in that area of Columbia and neighboring Irmo. When Belk withdrew from the Columbia market Parisian occupied that space in 1996. J. B. White, a now-defunct regional department store, became the fourth anchor in the mid 1990s. After the J. B. White chain closed, Belk returned to the mall in that space. Parisian closed in 2006, making way for J. C. Penney to open and stablizing the mall with its curret anchors. A controversial oddity of the mall is the fact that it straddles two counties, Lexington and Richland. The state's blue laws restrict hours that businesses may open on Sunday, but local counties may opt out of the blue laws if they choose. Dillard's, located in Richland County where blue laws are relaxed, is able to open earlier on Sunday than the remainder of the mall, situated in more conservative Lexington County, where stores may not open until 1:30 pm.
