Coaldale is a borough located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 2,295.


Coaldale is located at 40°49'20" North, 75°54'36" West (40.822234, -75.910115)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.6 km˛ (2.2 mi˛). 5.6 km˛ (2.2 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,295 people, 1,046 households, and 606 families residing in the borough. The population density is 408.3/km˛ (1,055.2/mi˛). There are 1,209 housing units at an average density of 215.1/km˛ (555.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.34% White, 0.31% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 1.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,046 households out of which 22.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.0% are non-families. 38.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 24.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.14 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the borough the population is spread out with 19.2% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 28.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.3 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $23,362, and the median income for a family is $31,905. Males have a median income of $28,317 versus $18,083 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $14,021. 13.2% of the population and 8.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.7% of those under the age of 18 and 10.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
