In 2003 Hawkes appeared at the controversial Manchester World Music Festival. That year the event was organised by the notorious keyboardist with the Inspiral Carpets, Clint Boon. Boon decided to include many unusual categories and genres on the artist list that year, a decision which caused quite a furore in the WOM community. Normal genres like Afro-Caribbean Jazz were joined by glam metal (Twisted Sister), Acid House (The Shamen) and EMO (Jimmy Eat World). He also included a One-Hit Wonder category (Chesney Hawkes) and an Oldest Band category which was represented by a supergroup comprising of surviving members of the Glenn Miller Band, Louis Armstrong's 89 year old drummer Earnest Connor, and Keith Richards on lead guitar. Later Boon claimed the whole event was an artistic exercise to undermine the pretensiousness and paternalistic bourgeois pandering of the middle classes towards 3rd World cultures. However, this backfired for Boon as the "renegade" artists he placed on the bill went down a storm with the audience. LyricsVault: Hall of fame: Chesney Hawks (294 words)
Encouraged by the equally dramatic success of the "BUDDY'S SONG" soundtrack album, CHESNEY HAWKES and his band (featuring his brother Jodie on drums) rounded off 1991 with a sell-out tour, playing everything from small clubs to 3,000 seaters the length and breadth of Europe.
Those who'd predicted that CHESNEY HAWKES would never manage it were the only ones who wound up disappointed as both fans and critics alike voted CHESNEY's live show a spectacular success, with special honours going to the now legendary last night show at London's Hammersmith Odeon.
CHESNEY had long out-grown the stifling confines of teen- idoldom and was eagerly looking forward to the challenge of establishing himself as a songwriter in his own right.
