CHQ - Chautauqua Airlines (580 words)
The agreement voted on was virtually the same agreement which IBT and Chautauqua management agreed to in May of 2002, but was modified to reflect subsequent changes to the Jets for Jobs Agreement reached between the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) and US Airways.
Now that the Chautauqua pilots have spoken on this matter, we would sincerely urge you to keep your promise to the pilot group and honor the ballot results by keeping all additional US Air code sharing flying at Chautauqua Airlines.
As was the case in Mesa Airlines’ creation of Freedom Air, it would be intolerable to allow Chautauqua Airlines to circumvent its pilot group by establishing an “alter ego” airline.
Regional carriers reshaping air travel (2215 words)
The airline industry always has been volatile and competitive -- the closest thing to outright war, one analyst calls it -- but some say this transformation is on par with the change from propellers to jets.
The major challenge the major airlines face is cutting costs, and that means reducing the pay for pilots, flight attendants, maintenance workers and others to get it in line with the standards established by the low-cost carriers and the regionals.
These are called "scope clauses." But as the financial woes of the major airlines worsen, pilots have been trading that restriction for a guarantee of jobs for their members flying the new regional jets being put into service.
