Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) is a regional municipality in Nova Scotia, Canada. The 2001 population was 105,968, making it Nova Scotia's second most populous urban centre.


In the early 1990s the provincial government sought to reduce the number of municipalities in Halifax County and Cape Breton County and created a task force in 1992 to pursue this rationalization. In 1995, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality Act was implemented and the CBRM was created on August 1, 1995.

Cape Breton Regional Municipality(46°09′ N 60°10′ W, AST), or CBRM as it is commonly known, is a regional municipality in the province of Nova Scotia.
CBRM was created from the former municipalities of Sydney, Glace Bay, New Waterford, North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Louisbourg, and Cape Breton County.
CBRM's culture is dominated by the Scottish Gaelic, or "Celtic", heritage common to most of Cape Breton Island, however the urban industrial area of CBRM is also influenced by a mixture of other cultures including African Canadian, Jewish, Newfoundland, Irish, and a variety of Eastern European countries.
