Cannon County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 12,826. Its county seat is Woodbury6.


Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 688 km˛ (266 mi˛). 688 km˛ (266 mi˛) of it is land and 0 km˛ (0 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 12,826 people, 4,998 households, and 3,643 families residing in the county. The population density is 19/km˛ (48/mi˛). There are 5,420 housing units at an average density of 8/km˛ (20/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 96.87% White, 1.46% Black or African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 1.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 4,998 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.60% are married couples living together, 9.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.10% are non-families. 24.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.99.


In the county, the population is spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 28.90% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.20 males.


The median income for a household in the county is $32,809, and the median income for a family is $38,424. Males have a median income of $28,659 versus $21,489 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,405. 12.80% of the population and 9.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.00% of those under the age of 18 and 17.80% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

TENNESSEE CANNON COUNTY (292 words)
In 1837, a portion of Northeastern Cannon Co. was used in the forming of the new Dekalb Co., and in 1838 a portion of Wilson County containing the area around Auburntown was added to Cannon.
The County is bounded on the west by Rutherford County, the north by Wilson and DeKalb Counties, on the east by Warren County, and on the south by Coffee County.
Cannon County Tennessee is in need of someone to adopt and expand it.
