Bugojno

Bugojno (Cyrillic: Бугојно) is a town and municipality of the same name in central Bosnia and Herzegovina on the river Vrbas. It is located in the Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity. Geography

The municipality of Bugojno has an average elevation of 570 meters above sea level. Much of its 366 km2 is forested. The terrain is mountainous with several prominent features. Stozer (1662m), Kalin (1,530m) and Rudina (1,385m) are the tallest mountains in Bugojno.


The most famous son of Bugojno is an Australian-Bosniak Zahid "Billy" Vrban, Billy has been an exceptional example of the Bosniaks, he's started a promising career as an engineer for multi-national company Bosch. On the side, it has been reported (albeit with no proof) that billy likes abit of jiggy jiggy on the side, and has is famous for wasting a whole fortnights pay in one night.

Croats made 34,31% in (9372), Bosnaks 28,84% (7879), Serbs 28,67% (7831), Yugoslavs 5,80% (1586) and others 2,38%(649). Croats made majority in Crnice, Gaj, Gorica, Lug, Vrbanja and Vucipolje, while Centar had a same percentage of Bosniaks and Croats, Bosniaks had majority in Vrbas, and Serbs in Novo Naselje and Cipuljic.

In 2005, 79% of population of Bugojno municipality were ethnic Bosniaks, while ethnic Croats comprised 19%. It should be noted that this is only an estimate.


Economy

Bugojno was once a major industrial center in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However hardships caused by the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina took a toll on the industry of Bugojno. Forestry has always been an important contributor to the local economy. Winter tourism has emerged in recent years.
