Until 2001 a military helicopters base existed in the area. It has been nominated by the Minister of Transport Radu Berceanu as the location for Bucharest's new airport for low-cost flights (as the operational tariffs for Bucharest's current low-cost hub, Aurel Vlaicu Airport, are set to grow)[1].
