Edmund

The first Echidna to take on the title of Guardian, Edmund was also the first to bear the white crescent birth mark on the chest that has passed down through the family line. Edmund was originally a scientist, and worked with his brother Dimitri on the Chaos Siphon. When Dimitri became Enerjak, Edmund was appointed Guardian and sent to defeat him. With the aid of several fire ants, he brought down Necropolis, Enerjak's stronghold. Edmund later perished when the Dark Legion, led by his nephew Menniker, attacked Echidnaopolis. Dimitri (also known as Enerjak) serves as the Robotnik-counterpart to Knuckles the Echidna (and Knuckless counterpart to Mammoth Mogul) in the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics. ...

Steppenwolf

Edmund's son and the second in the line of Guardians, Steppenwolf's counterpart on the side of evil was his cousin Menniker, head of the Dark Legion. After his father's death, Steppenwolf was taken to Haven by the fire ant Christopheles, who then trained Steppenwolf in several ways. Steppenwolf then confronted the Dark Legion, and repulsed their first attack. Steppenwolf is dead in the current time period of the comics, either from old age or from falling in battle. His spirit appeared to the ailing Hawking, who then accompanied him into the afterlife.

Hawking

Hawking was the Guardian of Angel Island when the Echidnas were attacked by their life-long enemies, the Dingoes. He protected Echidnaopolis from a nuclear attack with a dome shield, but then used a teleporter device to send all life off the island into another zone. He then spent much time cleaning it up, until it was again fit for habitation. He returned all the inhabitants except for the Dingoes and the Echidnas, both of whom returned after Robotnik fired the Ultimate Annihilator. Hawking, in a wheelchair, fought against the impending threat, but ended up in a coma and then died.

  • Hawking's name and wheelchair use may be a reference to physicist Stephen Hawking.

Stephen William Hawking Stephen William Hawking (born 8 January in Oxford, UK, 1942) CH, CBE, FRS, is a theoretical physicist. ...

Tobor

Hawking's son and the first Guardian charged with protecting Echidnaopolis after the Dingoes' nuclear attack. Tobor battled the then Dark Legion Grand Master Moritori Rex, who attacked the Echidnas with advanced weapons while the citizens were left with farming tools. Tobor and Moritori were teleported to the Floating Island, where they were severely injured by falling ruins. Hawking, looking for his son, mistook Moritori for him and took him back to Echidnaopolis, where he infiltrated the Brotherhood. The true Tobor wandered the planet in shame, and had his eyes replaced with cybernetic implants. He later returned to the Floating Island, and was trapped in another zone with Kragok for a short time. The two later escaped in front of a Dark Legion attack ship, and Tobor sacrificed himself to take out the weapon and Kragok.

Spectre

The oldest living guardian, the enigmatic Spectre is the most unpredictable of the group, the most ruthless in battle and one of the most powerful. He is unusual among the Guardians for several things: his black coat of fur, a cloud of smoke that trails him everywhere, blood-red eyes, and a silver open-faced helmet and flowing black robes resembling those common among the Dark Legion. Spectre is the son of Tobor, and the father of Thunderhawk. Spectre is the most violent in his approach to Guardianship, as demonstrated when he brutally blinded Moritori Rex or attacked Dark Legion soldiers purely out of spite. However, despite this apparent lack of moral inhibitions (or perhaps because of them) also possesses ablities that seem far beyond what the other Guardians (save Knuckles) have displayed, such as extra-sensory perception and telekinesis. The Dark Legion is a fictional organization from the Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie comic). ...

Although Spectre can seem unfriendly and anti-social at times, he can be polite when he wants to, as demonstrated when Princess Sally Acorn and he seemed uncharacteristically courteous. Spectre is also known for incredible hatred of the Dark Legion. In the Mobius: 25 Years Later story, he immediately assumes that Lien-Da is causing trouble when Knuckles wants to use Haven 2's surveillance to spy on her family. Spectre was seen as an infant in Knuckles the Echidna #17. It is unclear if more will be revealed about him, according to the editors. Her Royal Highness, Princess Sally of Mobius (Sally Acorn or Princess Sally Alicia Acorn) is a fictional character appearing in the North American Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons (commonly referred to by fans as SatAM) in 1994 and Archies Sonic the Hedgehog comics. ... Athair

Athair is the son of Janelle-Li, the only female Guardian (currently) in the history of the Brotherhood. Athair followed the usual Guardian tradition of assuming the position around 8 or 9 years old, but then was taken by the Ancient Walkers to Haven, where his mother surmised that he had a different destiny. Athair resigned his position, and began learning from the Ancient Walkers. When his mother died, he was expected to reclaim the position, but he refused. His son Sabre, furious at him, took up the position at age 7. Athair, meanwhile, played other roles: serving as Mitre of the Lost Echidna Tribe, and as mentor to Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. He is usually found in the company of Aurora, and as they died the Ancient Walkers selected him as one of their successors. In Sonic Underground, Athair appears as a wiseman and seer, foretelling doom if Knuckles leaves the Floating Island. He helps Knuckles and co. by providing them with a canister to contain a broken Chaos Emerald, the energies of which threaten to destroy the planet. However, the Hedgehogs are reluctant to heed his advice when he claims that they must form an alliance with Dr. Robotnik to save Mobius. This Athair is dressed in a white and blue robe, and also carries a staff, far more regal that his usual walking stick. He also wears a green-lensed pair of glasses. He is the only Guardian besides Knuckles to appear on television, where he was voiced by Sean Connery. Sabre

Sabre is the son of Athair and the nominal 'leader' of the Brotherhood. He is the brains of the group, and is a top problem solver. He refuses to speak to his father, since Athair did not return the Island when Sabre's grandmother was about to die. Despite being born into the Lost Tribe, Sabre chose to return to Angel Island to assume Athair's place as Guardian. In the Mobius: 25 Years Later story arc, Sabre is found in a vegetative state, unaware of anything going on around him.

Locke

Knuckles' father and Sabre's son, Locke is the most unpredictable Guardian after Spectre and the most powerful after his son. Locke and Knuckles don't exactly have a good relationship, as Locke lied to Knuckles about his mother and family. Locke was granted a dream by the Ancient Walkers, which showed him Knuckles in the future. He subjected himself to genetic manipulation, enhancing his abilities and likely activating the genes that would reveal themselves in Knuckles. He later subjected Knuckles' egg to Chaos Energy, making him into a living Chaos Energy battery. Locke's decisions ruined his relationship with his wife Lara-Le, who divorced him and then married the Echidna Wynmacher. After the rest of the Brotherhood disappeared during a Robotnik/Dingo attack on the Island, Locke found himself as Guardian again when Knuckles forced to choose between his duty as Guardian and his loyalty to his friends, chose his friends. And so the gulf between father and son was renewed. His duties include guarding the Master Emerald from thieves such as Rouge the Bat and Scourge the Hedgehog. According to the alternate future of Mobius: 25 Years Later, Locke died at a rather young age given Guardian longevity. He died in his sleep in the middle of the night on the sixty-first day of the Mobian year 3246. Three days later, he was buried in a small, private ceremony, and as a result never met Lara-Su in that timeline. In the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, Rouge the Bat ) is a determined treasure hunter and part-time government agent who plans to make all the gems and treasures of the world hers, and bases her tactics on prospective profit. ... Lara-Su

A possible daughter of Knuckles and Julie-Su from two different alternate futures, Lara-Su is named for her grandmother, Lara-Le. Lara-Su first appears from a future in which she believes her father to be dead, and comes back to the present day Mobius Prime trying to save him. Operating under the alias Jani-Ca, she attempted to save her father from dying, but thought that she failed, not knowing that Knuckles was faking. She also saved her mother's younger self from a sniper. When she returned home, Julie-Su (alternate future) told her the truth about her father: he had absorbed a ton of Chaos Energy, gone insane, and was now leader of the Dark Legion. A different version of Lara-Su appeared in Mobius: 25 Years Later. This Lara-Su had grown up with the benefit of both parents, but had a heated disagreement with her father. Lara wanted to become a Guardian, but for unexplained reasons Knuckles didn't want her to. However, after her unveiling, a ceremony in which young Echidna girls are introduced to mature society, Knuckles relented. Lara's newfound joy was short-lived, as she stowed away aboard a transport taking her father to a device that would theoretically allow him and Sonic to fix time. However, the device malfunctioned, Sonic disappeared, and Lara dissipated into thin air. She later returned in an alternate version of the Mobius: 25 Years Later future, in which she, along with King Sonic and Miles "Tails" Prower are imprisoned on the orders of the new king, Shadow the Hedgehog, and his enforcer, none other than Lara's own father Knuckles. She retained her memories of the original future since she along with King Sonic were sent back in time. Image File history File links Lara-Su. ... Image File history File links Lara-Su. ... Abilities

Since Steppenwolf was instructed in the manipulation of Chaos energy by the fire ant Christopheles, all of the Guardians have had the ability to control such energy. Each member of the Brotherhood uses it to varying power, and it seems to be augmented by their emotions. Use of these energies gives the Guardians powers such as teleportation, telekinesis, and the ability to fire Chaos energy blasts from various parts of their bodies, most often their hands.

Having been exposed to Chaos radiation while in his egg state, Knuckles is the most powerful member of the Brotherhood, being effectively a living Chaos Emerald. As such, he has demonstrated powers that no other member of the Brotherhood has ever exhibited, such as warping reality as he so chooses. Knuckles also temporarily used his power to become Chaos Knuckles, a green colored version of himself who is the most powerful Chaos entity on Mobius. Mobius is the planet that the Sonic the Hedgehog characters are from in the comic book series made by Archie Comics (United States) and Fleetway (Europe) , and in all three American cartoons, including the light-hearted Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the ABC cartoon Sonic the Hedgehog (known as SatAM...

Haven

The headquarters of the Brotherhood, Haven is located in the Forbidden Zone, a dimension split off from the rest of Mobius. Haven is the most advanced facility on Mobius, and all Guardians not on active duty reside here. Haven also serves as a monitor for nearly all activities on Angel Island, and many on the rest of Mobius. Haven was originally used as a training center by Steppenwolf, who was brought to the location by the fire ant Christopheles. During the Dark Legion Quantum Beam attack, Haven was demolished.

In the Mobius: 25 Years Later story, the Brotherhood lives in an identical facility known as Haven 2.

Fan Base

Though minor characters within the comic, The Brotherhood do have an active fan base on the Internet. Many fan-fictions and fan-arts have been devised of the current Guardians (Spectre, Thunderhawk, Sojourner, Athair, Sabre and Locke). There is also a rumor of a radio drama being released on the internet based on the Brotherhood. However, there is also a major error in many fan works: Sojourner is depicted as Thunderhawk's father, but he is really Thunderhawk's son.
