The Bowie Baysox are a class AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox play in the Eastern League and are based in Bowie, Maryland. They play in Prince George's County Stadium. For many years, the Orioles' AA affiliate was located in Hagerstown and called the Suns. The franchise shifted to Bowie, a larger market (30 minutes from Baltimore, Washington, and Annapolis) with a newer ballpark for 1994 after playing one season at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium. The team is currently owned by the Comcast cable network. The "Baysox" nickname is derived from Bowie's relative proximity to the Chesapeake Bay. Bowie Baysox (1695 words)
Although the Baysox had David Newhan in the lineup on a Major League rehab assignment, the Akron Aeros were too much for the 'Sox as the team from the Rubber Capital snuck away with a victory for the second consecutive night.
The weather was great for baseball Friday night in Bowie but the Baysox defense was not as Radhames Liz was victimized by a first inning throwing error which lead to three runs and poor defense, putting the Baysox in a tight bind.
The Baysox were two outs away from beating the Binghamton Mets for just the second time this season when a passed ball and a three hits, including a triple and a game winning RBI double allowed the Mets to pull one out from underneath the Baysox hopes.
