Birthelm, was the 27th Archbishop of Canterbury, serving in 959. He served in the Saxon era, before the Protestant Reformation. A monk from Glastonbury, he served as Bishop of Wells beginning in 956, then was translated to Canterbury in 959. However, Birthelm was deposed and returned to Wells, where he served until 973.
