Beta Chi Theta (ΒΧΘ) is a national South Asian interest social fraternity established in 1999 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). On June 2, 1999, Beta Chi Theta was formally acknowledged by the university and granted membership into the UCLA Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC). Beta Chi Theta was originally founded by 8 students and today has over 400 brothers in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Indiana, Florida, and Minnesota. The founding principles which support and give purpose to Beta Chi Theta are: creating and maintaining a strong, close-knit Brotherhood, honoring Tradition, actively pursuing Service to Humanity, increasing South Asian Awareness, promoting Academic Excellence, and building a unified Nationwide Network. Philanthropy

Beta Chi Theta actively seeks to promote Service to Humanity through active engangement with the local communities of its respective chapters. Many local chapters host "service weeks" in efforts to focus energies on a particular problem of interest to the local chapter. Some of the causes supported by the fraternity's chapters include:

  • Cancer Awareness (University of Oklahoma)
  • Breast Cancer Awareness (University of California San Diego)
  • Heart Disease Awareness (University of Texas at Austin)


In addition, Beta Chi Theta has accumulated over 14,000 hours of documented community service.[[1]]

North-American Interfraternity Conference

  • On April 23rd, 2006, Beta Chi Theta became the first and only nationally recognized South Asian fraternity through its acceptance of membership into the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Additionally, at seven years of age, it is also the youngest fraternity ever to become a member of the NIC.[citation needed]
  • All chapters and colonies of the fraternity are either members of their host institution's Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) or are currently pursuing membership.

Chi Psi is a fraternity consisting of more than 30 chapters (known as "alphas") at American colleges and universities.
It was founded on May 20, 1841, by 10 students at Union College with the idea of emphasizing the fraternal and social principles of a brotherhood, rather than the literary characteristics of the seven existing societies (the earliest of which was Phi Beta Kappa at William and Mary).
In addition, Chi Psi was the first fraternity to establish a house, at the University of Michigan in 1845.

In June of 2006, Theta Chi's 150th Anniversary Convention was held at the Norwich University campus in Northfield, Vermont.
