Jatti graduated as a lawyer from Sykes Law College, Kolhapur and became a pleader in Jamakhandi.
He was a key figure in Bombay state politics, elected in the Bombay State Legislative Assembly in 1940s and involved in various portfolios, including Parliamentary Secretary to the then Bombay Chief Minister B G Kher, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and later as Chief Minister.
Outside of politics, Jatti was ounder president of the Basava Samithi, a religious movement propagated the preachings of 12th century saint philosopher Basaveshwara.
Jatti was put on ventilator and external cardiac pacing machine after his heart rate slowed down and blood pressure dropped, Ramesh, who is the Chief Cardiologist at the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital Heart Centre, said.
Mr Jatti was also nominated as member of the Bombay State Legislative Assembly to represent the merged area, and, within a week of his nomination, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the then Bombay Chief Minister B G Kher.
Mr Jatti subsequently moved onto the national scene and was appointed Lt Governor of Pondicherry in 1968.
