Beginnings

While Mims was still in the underground circuit working with UBO Records, he was desperate to get his own kind of music out to the public. In 2003, Mims created his own record label named American King Music with his manager Corey Llewllyn. Around this time he parted on friendly terms with UBO Records. Within a few months, the label had an underground hit behind Mims's "I Did You Wrong". He soon began looking for a distribution deal with a major label. After being turned down by every major label he approached, Mims independently released the hit single "This Is Why I'm Hot". This gained the attention of Capitol Records and they agreed to distribute the material. EMI was so impressed with their determination to have and independently released single go #1 on the charts. From 2003 to 2006, American King Music released material from other artists on the label. In 2006, Mims recorded and released a mixtape named "The Future". The CD gained Mims some attention, but "This Is Why I'm Hot" got the label a distributino deal. In 2007, Mims released the first CD on a five album deal named "Music Is My Savior" by Mims. The success of the three released singles led to American King Music having its first album go gold.
