The BMW Asian Open is a men's professional golf tournament. The tournament began in 2002 and was played in Taiwan for its first two years before moving to the People's Republic of China. It is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour and is part of the European Tour's drive to expand into Asia in general and China in particular. "BMW is thrilled to have confirmation from such a talented roster of big name golf players," said Ingo Wirth, Tournament Director of the BMW Asian Open and the BMW International Open in Germany.
Prior to last year's victory, Sandelin had won the German Open in 1999, as well as a win at the Spanish Open, and the determined Swede will be seeking back-to-back wins when he arrives on Taiwan soil this November.
The BMW Asian Open 2002 will again be joint-sanctioned by the Davidoff Tour and the European Tour and retains its status as one of the most eagerly anticipated golf tournaments in Asia.
Ernie Els coasts to record 13 stroke victory - BMW Asian Open 2005 (1340 words)
Ernie Els completed his march to victory at the BMW Asian Open in superb fashion this morning, putting the finishing touches to a record 13-shot victory on the way to securing his third title of 2005.
The US$1.5 million BMW Asian Open was joint-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours for the fourth time, with 2005 the second year in a row that it was played at the Tomson course.
Defending BMW Asian Open champion Miguel Angel Jimenez recorded at 73 and lies in a tie for 31st.
