Athanasios Demetrios Maroulis on September 22 1964 in Brooklyn NY.

Athan Maroulis acted in various college and summer stock theater productions prior to turning his attentions towards being a band vocalist. Subsequently forming the New York based group FAHRENHEIT 451 (1984-1986),with whom Maroulis recorded his first commercially available album. Over the ensuing years, Maroulis established himself in a number of alternative musical genres including Gothic, industrial and electronic. Stints with the Philadelphia based EXECUTIVE SLACKS (1987-1990)as well as TUBALCAIN (1991-1993)followed.

Migrating to Los Angeles found him fronting SPAHN RANCH (1993-2000),through numerous album releases and world tours the band rose to become the most popular of all of Maroulis’ensembles. A diverse and fairly eclectic vocalist,Maroulis then took a convincing turn as a crooner,recording a couple of albums with a 1940s styled vocal/jazz combo named THE BLUE DAHLIA (1999-2000).Maroulis continues to remain active both behind and in front of the scenes, runs Sepiatone Records,a vintage vocal and jazz record label while continuing to lend his voice to various studio and film projects.

Maroulis has also completed over 250 compact disc reissues,here he has produced and written liner notes on collections such as Orson Welles,The War of the Worlds as well as compilations from Billie Holiday,Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis, to name a few. Recently,Athan's younger brother Constantine Maroulis was a popular finalist on the hit television show American Idol.

Maroulis was born in Brooklyn to Greek parents, James Constantine Maroulis and Constance P. Maroulis (born 1938).
Maroulis and Bice are also notable for being among the first contestants to compete using the rock idiom.
