There are many shrines of Auliae Keram (Friends of Allah) where pilgrims throng to pay homage and seek blessings and benedictions . Amongst these shrines, the holy shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom simnani (R.A) is of great importance and famous in the world. It is the shrine of such a dignified personality of spirituality where fountain of knowledge and graciousness is gushing quenching thirst of seeker of reality and right path, Where the difficulties and anxieties of distressed and affilicted are being removed, where victims of evil spirits and demon (asebo zin) are being relieved of these embarrassing conditions; where candle of Ashrafe Simnani (R.A.) is illuminating the darkness of hearts and instilling the love of Allah and excessive passion of the founder of Islam (S.A.W); Where rain of munificence (Faizan) continues raining every moments; Where poor and rich , beggar and king are spreading their hands with tearful eyes . where one feels that he is in the court of a king where complains of complainants are being redressed. Therefore, it is essential to know its historical background, presence at the Shrine, methods of paying homage, how and where to stand to offer Fateha, how to seek blessings and how to abstain from doing anything contrary to Shariat ( Revealed law) and in the last celebration of annual urs.
Historical background It is a historical fact that deserting the throne of Simnan, He came to Pandawa Sharif , Bengal, India in the period of the ruler of tughlaque family. Hazrat Shaikh Alaul haque Waddin Ganje Nabat (R.A.) made him his disciple and made him reach on the peak of spirituality . On the direction of his Shaikh, He left for kichowacha Sharif passing through different places of Bihar and U.P. , At last , he arrived at his destined place, kichowcha Sharif engulfed in the darkness of infidelity. Facing all obstacles, he illuminated the candle of Islam and right path as a result of which in no time the darkness vanished and rays of Islam and its massages spread every where. Thousand of nonbelievers embraced Islam being impressed with his purity of character and unmatched spiritual greatness. Serving Islam and bringing millions of people on the right path, He left this world on 28th Moharram 808(A.H) One can calculate date of death from " Ashaful Mumenin" It is interesting and amazing to say that he got his grave constructed in his life time. He laid the foundation stone of his grave and placed in its foundation stone from Mecca brought by Hazrat Ruknuddin Sair (R.A.) within minutes. He asked to make grave with brick and it should be as wide and high that he could say prayer standing Hazrat Jamshed Qualandar was engaged in its construction for twelve years . Hazrat Noorul Ain (R.A.), Hazrat Shaikh Mohammad Durre yatim and Hazrat Shaikh Marauf Addwmwi also participated. He used to visit grave daily. In his last time he passed whole day and night in the grave and wrote Resalae Quabria and Basharatul Moridin. He also predicted that he who would come to his grave, he would get his desire. The date of its construction can be calculated from " Arshe Akbar" 793.
Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam, ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani traces his lineage in direct descent from Makhdoom al-Afaq, Hadrat Sayyad ?Abd'al-Razzaq Noor-al?Ayn (b. 765 AH). Hadrat Khawaja Sayyad Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir, Chisti Qadiri, Semnani, the Sultan of Semnan (near present-day Tehran in Iran) traced his descent from the Seal of Prophet D through Imam Husayn, thus his descendants later were referred to as the Husayni Sayyads. He inherited his Sultanate peacefully from his father in 723 AH at the age of fifteen years. His ten-year reign was characterised by justice, honesty and peace for his subjects. In 733 AH, at the age of 25 years, he laid down his title and went in search of spiritual wisdom by travelling through many countries and sitting with many renowned Scholars and Sufi Masters. During this time, he initiated personally with the Grand Shaykh, Hadrat Shah 'Ala-ul? Haq Pandawi. Notable contemporaries were Hadrat Khawaja Bandah Ghaysudaraz, Makhdoom Shah Mina, Hadrat Shaykh Ala?al-Dawla Semnani, Hadrat Khawaja Hafiz Shiraz, Hadrat Khawaja Bahauddin Naqshband, Imam ?Abdallah Yafa'-Iy' and Hadrat Shaykh Sayyad Jalal-ul Din Bukhari.
Hadrat Khawaja Sayyad Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani settled in Kicchocha in Northern India and established this as their base to serve and propagate Islam. Whilst in Kicchocha, he named his Khalifah and Successor as Hadrat Sayyad ?Abd al-Razzaq Nur al-?Ayn in 765 AH. He was a nephew of Hadrat Khawaja Sayyad Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani and became the driving force behind the further strengthening of the Chishti Qadiri Ashrafi Tar?qah founded by Hadrat Khawaja Sayyad Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Semnani. From this time onwards, Hadrat Khawaja Sayyad Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir spent many years travelling in search of spiritual wisdom and when he eventually died in 808 AH, at the age of one hundred years, he was laid to rest in Kicchocha Shareef, where he was buried and his shrine erected.
The Ashrafi Family, or Ashrafi Sayyads as they were also known, continued to flourish in North India and were characterised by their willingness to travel in the way of Allah, Most Sublime, spreading the truth of His spiritual message, and being renowned public orators. Up until today, everywhere around the world that Muslims from the subcontinent have spread, his family name is honoured and his praises sung.
The Ashrafi Sayyads were given a new resurgence in the 13th century AH by the life and mission of A'laHadrat Sayyad Ali Hussein 'Ashrafi Miya'who was an outstanding spiritual figure in his time, attracting many to initiate with him and taking the spiritual message of Islam to many lands.
A'laHadrat Sayyad Ali Hussein 'Ashrafi Miya' , was the maternal father of Hadrat Sayyad Shah Mawlana Ahmad Ashraf, who was, in turn, the maternal grandfather of Shaykh al-Islam, ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Mian. Mawlana Sayyad Shah Ahmad Ashraf became the spiritual guide and tutor of his nephew, Sayyad Abul Muhamid Muhammad Ashrafi al-Jilani, the Muhaddith al-Azam al-Hind, who was, in turn, the father of Shaykh-al-Islam, ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani.It was from this powerful spiritual lineage that Shaykh al-Islam Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani inherited his capacity for spiritual wisdom and his earnest devotion to the ways of Allah, Most Glorious. Shaykh al-Islam, ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani's paternal grandfather was the noted Hakim, Hadrat Shah Sayyad Nadhar Ashraf, who was revered as a scholar, poet and benefactor to the poor.
Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam, ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani took initiation from his Uncle Shaykh al Mashaykh, al-Haj, Sayyad Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf, Ashrafi al-Jilani 'Sarkar-e-Kalan'(b. 1342 AH), who was the spiritual head of the Ashrafi Tariqah in Kicchocha Shareef. This initiation took place on 26 Shawwal 1381, from which time Hadrat Sayyad Muhammad Mukhtar Ashraf treated Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam as a son and bestowed the Khilafat on him.
At the time of the Blessed ?Urs of Muhaddith al-A'zam al-Hind in Shawwal 1381, there was a huge gathering including his noble family, many Grand Scholars, Mashaikh, mureeds, and well wishers. The entire gathering pronounced Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam ?Allama Sayyad Muhammad Madani Ashrafi al-Jilani by acclamation as head of the Ashrafi Sayyads worldwide. He then returned to the Jamiah for a further three years to study the rational sciences and Had?th under the Shaykh al-Had?th of the Jami?ah Ashrafiyah Mubarakpur. Finally he was given his ijazah and underwent the ceremony of the tying of his turban on 10th Shawwal 1382 AH/1963 CE.
