He was a member of the young Somocistas. In 1967 he graduated in law from the National Autonomous University of León. Between1968 and 1979 he worked as a lawyer in the commercial and banking world. In 1980 he was arrested as a counterrevolutionary during the Government Junta of National Reconstruction and spent 9 months in prison. Forbidden to attend the funeral of his father while in prison made Aleman feel resentful towards the Sandinista National Liberation Front, whose party dominated the junta.
