Encyclopedia > Area code 914

914 is the area code for Westchester County, New York. It is one of thirteen area codes which currently exist in the state.

Up until 2000, the 914 area code also served the counties of Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Delaware, Greene and Columbia in addition to Westchester. However, due to the ever-growing popularity and commercialization of cell phones and internet dial-up connections, the area code was split on June 5, 2000 with Westchester retaining 914, and the remaining counties receiving the new area code of 845.
