History

Ard che was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from the province of Vivarais.


Geography

The department is part of the current region of Rhone-Alpes and is surrounded by the French departments of Dr me, Vaucluse, Gard, Loz re, Haute-Loire, and Is re.


Demographics

The inhabitants of the department are called Ard chois.


Culture

With its rivers and streams, Ard che has become a favorite place for canoe and kayak enthusiasts from around the world. Ard che contains a part of the C vennes National Park.
